Main Hall

A narrow vestibule leads to this imposing double-height space. As with all the rooms to the north side of the House, dark oak panelling and heavy wooden beams overhead maximize dramatic impact.

Three leaded windows allow the space to take on a cool blue light. Lanterns hang from the ceiling beams, a nod to Mackintosh’s Glasgow School of Art library, with a further row of lanterns below the Minstrel’s Gallery reminiscent of the Windyhill, Kilmacolm residence.

The room leads to the Grand Staircase, similar in style to that found at The Hill House in Helensburgh. Larger and more ambitious, is also includes a semi-circular half-landing on which to pause or perhaps pose. A burnished copper and stained glass light fitting adds a warm ambiance to accompany your climb.

Delicately crafted details including beaten pewter panels stand out among the repeating vertical lines of the wooden wall panelling and elegant support columns. Bird heads and their outstretched wings are seen throughout the house, illustrating Mackintosh’s love of feathered creatures.

Stained glass panels within the south-facing Music Room doors dance with colour, hinting at the light-filled space beyond.

Dining Room

The dining table, surrounded by the familiar form of Mackintosh high-backed chairs, creates the perfect focal point, yet your gaze will soon be drawn around this dark wood-panelled space – an awe-inspiring blend of bold statements and elaborate details.

Intricate gesso panels illustrating the ‘Life of the Rose’ are inspired by Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh’s original designs and realised by today’s master craftsmen. A heavy stone fireplace enjoys delicately carved finishing touches.

From carpet to stained glass door panels and sideboard details, the rose motif is echoed around the room. The eye is then drawn up to the white vaulted ceiling, helping to showcase hand-blown glass pendant lights.

What could easily appear overwhelming, miraculously comes together in this stunning and thought-provoking space.

Music Room

As was his want, Mackintosh leads you effortlessly yet impactfully from darkness and into the light.

From tables and high-backed chairs to wall panelling, decorative fireplace and piano case, the Music Room is a magnificent vision in a delicate palate of white, rose, violet and green. Metallic gold and silver accents glisten as sunlight streams into this south-facing space. As with the Dining Room, a white vaulted ceiling leads your gaze up towards a collection of elegant glass lanterns, clustered in small groups for added impact.

Six double-height curved French doors, guarded by ethereal female figures, beckon towards the balcony. Step out to uninterrupted views across the grounds to Bellahouston Park, the perfect finishing touch in warmer spring and summer months. Glance back towards the House exterior incorporating an elaborate stone ‘Tree of Life’ carving.

From weddings to our frequent Music Recitals, designed by one of the art world’s most renowned partnerships, romance is still very much alive.

Oval Room

Originally the Ladies’ Room, where Edwardian ladies would withdraw after dinner, Mackintosh applied the oval shape, his much-used feminine symbol, to subtly tell a design story. Windows, cupboards, fireplace and lighting would also fall in line with the gentle curve.

Although no interior design details were supplied by Mackintosh, from stained glass ceiling light to discreet window seats, by referencing existing buildings, drawings and photographs, every effort was made to sympathetically realise his intentions.

The View

The View offers a contemporary, informal, and relaxed space, ideal for private events, meetings, and celebrations of all types. Occupying the top floor, it encompasses three stylish rooms—the View, the Nursery, and the Doocot—and can accommodate up to 80 guests in a variety of layouts. In contrast to the more formal Mackintosh Suite, The View provides the perfect backdrop for a range of events, whether you need a contemporary meeting space or a more informal setting for a special dinner or celebration.

The suite also features its own private balcony with park views, and in warmer months, guests can step onto the rooftop terrace to enjoy breathtaking views across Bellahouston Park. Additionally, the suite includes private toilet facilities and lift access for convenience and ease.

Meeting Rooms

Our 3 contemporary rooms – Room 1, Room 3 and Room 4 – offer flexible meeting space, with natural daylight and park views. Rooms 1 and 4 also include a dedicated private lounge for break-outs and refreshments. Rooms come equipped with the standard AV equipment you would expect, and there is wifi throughout the house. As well as the benefit of ample complimentary onsite parking.
