Nevis Ensemble bringsits 40-piece symphony orchestra to House for an Art Lover as part of an intense 70 performance tour of public and community venues for Festival 2018. Weather permitting the performance will be outside, please note that no seating will be provided.

Nevis Ensemble is pleased to announce its inaugural project, running between 31 July and 13 August 2018 as part of Festival 2018, the cultural programme for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
Conducted by
Holly Mathieson (RSNO, NYOS) and Jon Hargreaves (Octandre Ensemble, Online Orchestra), this relentlessly energetic orchestra shall give 70 performances in just two weeks in publicspaces and community venues across Scotland, such as Glasgow Central Station, Edinburgh Airport, Faslane Peace Camp, House for an Art Lover, Drumchapel Park, Glasgow Erskine Home, Waverley Care, SouthSeeds on the Croft, Woodlands Community Garden, All The Young Nudes, New Lanark, CentreStage in Kilmarnock, Glasgow Subway, Glasgow Night Shelter, and as part of the Merchant City Festival, Glasgow Music Studio’s Music Moments Festival, and Edinburgh’s JUST Festival. Local authority areas covered are: Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Edinburgh City, Glasgow City, Highland, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Scottish Border, South Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire, and West Lothian.

A special performance on Monday 6 August shall take the orchestra literally to the top of the Scotland with a performance at the summit of Ben Nevis – the highest peak in the British Isles.

The repertoire shall include the world premiere of a new commission from Matthew Grouse (2018 New Music Scotland award winner) of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as music by Beethoven, Stravinsky and Debussy, mixed in with some pop songs, jazz
tunes, and some good Scottish favourites – with a salsa twist.The 40 musicians are some of Europe’s most talented orchestral players, following collaboration between the
Ricciotti Ensemble in Amsterdam, Street Orchestra Live in London, HFM in Berlin, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland. Nevis is supported by Glasgow 2018, Creative Scotland and the Hugh Fraser Foundation.
