Art is the Flower: Mackintosh Heritage Skills Weekend

13 October 2018 10:00 am - 14 October 2018 4:00 pm

During this weekend you will learn the skills of stencilling, gesso making and appliqué, all cherished and practised by Mackintosh at the turn of the century. You will learn the techniques from scratch and practise them enough to achieve artwork using each technique.

This weekend packed with creative skills has been created to celebrate the 150 anniversary year of Mackintosh’s birth. Using techniques he favoured, and some of his designs you will work as a true “Glasgow Style” crafter to create some artwork… a gesso panel, a stencilled panel and an appliqué piece of soft work.

This is a perfect course for beginners and more experience art lovers. We will have a look at how Mackintosh used those techniques and have a go yourself using some of his design. You will go home with some new techniques and some realised artwork. A huge treat for traditional makers.

Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw is a Glasgow based stencil artist who specialises in turn of the century stencilling. She was responsible for the re-creation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh stencils on display in House for an Art Lover. Today she researches, teaches and works on commissions and is currently completing a restoration project in a George Walton A-listed property in Dunblane.
