Let's Talk Food

There are a number of things that will stand out as highlights from your day, for you and your partner these will be many. For your wedding guests this will tend to be a shorter list of the usual suspects, aside from how beautiful/ handsome you both look and how gorgeous the venue is the biggest things people will remember are; how good the DJ/ band was (i.e. how busy the dance floor was!) and how much they enjoyed the food.

At House for an Art Lover Head Chef Jamie Caldwell plays an integral part in creating all of our wedding packages. Jamie leads up a team of in-house chefs who create every dish served from scratch, from your canapés on arrival to your late-night buffet and everything in between. This blog was the ideal to opportunity to hear directly from Jamie on what goes into creating the perfect menu options for all our wedding packages.

Jamie Caldwell - Head Chef

What’s great about working at House for an Art Lover is that no two days are the same, every week my team gets the opportunity to create a diverse range of dishes. Alongside our wedding bookings we also have a busy cafe plus meetings and events, which ultimately means that there is plenty of opportunity to fine tune all of our plates and make sure they are the best they can be.

When I work with Hannah our co-ordinator to create the menus for our wedding packages, we try to take everything into consideration. We look at current trends, old favourites and speciality items and we try to make a selection of wedding menus that takes into account all tastes and budgets. For me the basis of any menu is the quality of produce used and here at the venue we use the highest calibre of suppliers. I work only with tried and tested suppliers because I want to ensure that I always have the very best produce for my chefs to work with.  Consistency is key in making sure that expectation matches reality, our wedding couples can feel secure that every hand-crafted dish will be just as they expect from the wedding menu package.

We are a small venue and one of the advantages that brings is that we can offer a great degree of flexibility when it comes to menus. The wedding packages are basically in 3 tiers but if a couple want to mix and match between the options to get their perfect menu then that’s absolutely fine. Making menus is not an exact science so it’s understandable that people will sometimes want to tweak things to get a dish that’s going to be perfect for them and their guests.

These days more than ever our couples also have to take into account additional dietary requirements for guests such as gluten free or dairy free diets, allergies or vegetarian/ vegan diets. I have created a range of menus that includes vegetarian and vegan options to choose from and most dishes can be adapted to allow for allergies, so long as we know the details of what is required in advance. In those circumstances where we have guests attending with additional requirements, I will work with Hannah to ensure that we accommodate with a dish that matches the guests needs, while still being of the same high quality as the main menu selected.

The wedding packages have a nice range of dishes to suit all tastes but if there is something you have in mind just let us know, we can usually do it! In the past year we have catered a wedding that was entirely vegan, an afternoon tea and also Indian style dishes - (almost) anything is possible, just ask!
