Notes to a Muse

Silence is so accurate. Mark Rothko

I come to you utterly tired, exhausted and unable to see a possibility of a relationship between two colours or shapes. I come to you anyway because I miss you. The back voices are restless and anxious.  I ask for one moment of connection. I am ashamed I have so little to offer you.

I need no-one looking over my shoulder.

The moon is watching.

I know nothing. One question  – am I alive when I do this?

Underneath/despite the talking thought-stream, there’s silence. Apophatic velvet mind. Colour laughs and calls me to a love song.

This is not philosophy.

Happiness is being on the beam with life – to feel the pull of life. Agnes Martin

Art to me is an anecdote of the spirit, and the only means of making concrete the purpose of its varied quickness and stillness. Mark Rothko.

Elise is also hosting a weekend Abstract Collage Masterclass linked to her exhibition in the Art Lovers Cafe Gallery. Please click here for more information.
