Digital Design Studio The Digital Design Studio (DDS) is a major research and postgraduate centre at The Glasgow School of Art with an international reputation for research in digital visualisation and interaction technologies. In essence, it seeks to fuse the creativity of art and design with the rigour of science, through education and research programmes. Its two-year MPhil multidisciplinary programme in animation is a studio-based experience with an emphasis on ideas and imagination and the craft of image making. Although essential, the compuer is seen as a tool and a means to an end. PhD programmes reflect the multidisciplinary ethos of DDS. These consider the cultural impact of digital issues ranging across the arts and sciences. DDS reseach activities include 3D modelling and animation, real-time visualisation, 3D sound, voice recognition, haptics, gesture-based interaction and camera-based tracking. The DDS has worked with a number of companies both in the UK and internationally to develop innovative digital solutions and establish knowledge transfer for commercial development. These areas focus on: * the exploitation and imaginative use of new 3D digital visualisation Commercial development includes digital product research and development, content creation, 3D urban visualisation, virtual tours, web-based interactive display applications and public interfaces.
