Paul Murray graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1984 and has been painting, teaching and travelling ever since.
Both his landscape and still life paintings demonstrate a delicate compositional balance of physical shape and negative space. He attempts to create compositions that develop through layers of brushwork, drawing and collage as they move between abstract and representational marks.
Murray is the recipient of the annual House for an Art Lover Award at the Paisley Art Institute 2010 and became an elected member of Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 2011.
‘Table Tops and Other Places Too’ is a collection of paintings including still life, church interiors, land and seascapes. Many of the pictures are inspired by the landscape and river activity around the artists’ Gourock home, whilst others are stimulated by objects collected by Murray during his travels in Europe and the Middle East.
